Attention is increasingly focused on completing the school’s new outdoor athletic facilities.Wilson said the new soccer field is essentially finished, with turf, goals, bleachers, lights, and fencing in place.Despite the field being ready for use, Wilson said varsity games likely will not be played there this season because supporting facilities still need to be completed. However, teams have been able to practice on the field.Work is also moving quickly on the baseball and softball facilities. Wilson said turf installation is underway on the baseball field, with foul lines beginning to give the facility its finished appearance.Meanwhile, improvements are continuing at the Stadium of Champions, where the track is scheduled to receive its new surface. Wilson said the rubber material needed for the project had arrived, and crews were preparing to begin applying the new coating.New turf areas are also being added near the stands to provide the Christian County cheerleaders with dedicated space away from trainers, video equipment, and other sideline operations during football games. Wilson said the turf for those areas is expected to arrive with the softball field materials.Wilson added that the track is expected to be finished prior to the next home football game on September 26.The district is also studying a potentially larger lighting improvement at the Stadium of Champions. Wilson said TVA is preparing a report detailing what it would take to replace the stadium’s older lighting with LED fixtures. He said energy-efficiency incentives and rebates could help offset the cost.
