(WTAP) - The Wood County Commission heard updates Monday morning on businesses looking to expand or relocate to the area.Wood County Economic Development Director Lindsey Piersol told the commissioners the county currently has nine active prospects in various stages of evaluation, all in manufacturing. At least one project is already locked in. Manufacturer PowerFlo purchased the former Hino facility in Williamstown earlier this year and plans to add 120 jobs as it moves in.Piersol said the company makes equipment used in the data center industry, but she wanted to avoid any potential misconceptions about what that means.“I do want to clarify just for the public that this is not a data center. They do make components for the data center industry, but it is not a data center itself. The best way I can describe it is, if you see a giant surge protector, that is what they make. And manufacturing facilities can use them as well. Right now, just one of their biggest clients is big tech,” Piersol said.Piersol also updated the commission on the state’s “Yes West Virginia” Site Readiness Program.Wood County landed five of the 10 grants it applied for, at $75,000 each, to prep industrial sites for development, incentivizing manufacturers or other businesses to move into the region.Editor’s note: The video for this story will be added once it airs.
