(WNEM) - Nurses at MyMichigan Medical Center in Alma are planning another three-day practice strike. Leaders with the Michigan Nurses Association say the union will hold the strike starting Monday, Sept. 21 after voting to reject the hospital’s latest contract offer. The union says the current deal on the table would raise wages 3.5 percent over four years, something nurses call a pay cut when you factor in the cost of living. The union has also filed multiple unfair labor practice charges, accusing MyMichigan of retaliation and changing working conditions without bargaining. This will be the second ULP strike for Alma nurses. The first was over the Fourth of July holiday.
“MyMichigan has tremendous respect for our nurses and appreciates the time and effort both bargaining teams have invested in negotiations since January. Both sides have worked hard and made significant movement throughout the bargaining process.MyMichigan worked diligently throughout negotiations to address the priorities identified by the MNA and ultimately presented a Last, Best and Final offer that included significant economic enhancements and agreed to the MNA’s stated top priority. We are disappointed that it was not ratified by MNA members and that the union has called a second strike. We do not believe that work stoppages advance either party’s interests. MyMichigan is fully prepared to ensure safe, uninterrupted care for our patients and will continue to work in good faith toward a resolution that benefits both our employees and MyMichigan Health."MyMichigan Health
