<div>Family medicine residents will begin rotations at Gila Regional Medical Center this month in a new partnership with the University of New Mexico, hospital CEO Robert Whitaker told his board of trustees at their meeting Wednesday.Residents will do a rural medicine rotation at Gila Regional Family Medicine Clinic, 3185 N. Leslie Road, and at Cassie Health Center, 1618 E. Pine St., for anywhere from two to eight weeks, Whitaker told the Daily Press.Eventually, residents will also see patients at the former Silver Health CARE Family Clinic building, 1380 U.S. 180 E. Gila Regional purchased the building this summer and plans to open it as Hilltop Clinic, offering primary family care and an urgent care clinic. The hospital is progressing on that, Whitaker said, with some recent work being done toward improving the parking lot. Whitaker said he had met with a designer to help refurbish the clinic both inside and out, including new flooring, paint and landscaping.“We’re going to add an X-ray, so we need to convert one of the rooms to an X-ray room, and a little bit of exterior work,” he said. The trustees had a short meeting in open session Wednesday, approving two information technology contracts and a resolution giving banking signature authority to the county-owned hospital’s new chief financial officer, William Ermann, who is slated to start Sept. 28.Following an executive session, the board also approved a merit and incentive program for employees. This is the second year it has done so. It’s an employee share-back program, Whitaker said.“When we have a good financial year, and we have good things — operations and quality — we do a share-back, like a retention payment back to the employees for their contributions into a good, successful year for Gila Regional,” he said.—JUNO OGLE</div>
