LAUREL, Miss. (WDAM) - New transportation technology at the Laurel School District will let parents know when their child makes it safely to school and back home, all in one setting. The district is introducing BusRight. It’s a new technology tool that is designed to keep kids and parents connected to and from school, all through an app called BusRight Parent.“The parents know their kid has been picked up and they’re on the bus — they’re en route to school or en route home,” district transportation coordinator Pedro Hosey Sr. said. “The parent has to download the app. Once BusRight sends them the invite, then they download it, and we go from there.”Hosey said the district runs 13 routes per day and this new technology helps track where students are supposed to be.Once students get on the bus, they’ll scan their card, and parents will be able to track them throughout the day. They will also scan once they get to school. The tool will also let bus drivers know if a student gets on the wrong bus.“It’ll light up a different color. It won’t light up green. That will let the driver know that this kid does not belong on this bus,” Hosey said. “If they try to get on the wrong stop, it will also light up.”Hosey said technology especially helps younger students by making sure they never get lost. The bus cards are mandatory for all bus students.Hosey said the new BusRight initiative will begin in mid-August.Parents will be informed when the technology is available for use.To learn more about BusRight, click HERE.

WDAM 7 On Your Side composer template image (WDAM7)

Want more WDAM 7 news in your inbox?
