Greenville Utilities said heavy rainfall that morning caused approximately 5,328 gallons of wastewater to overflow from three manholes in the Town of Bethel.The wastewater entered stormwater conveyances that flow into Grindle Creek, which is part of the Tar River Basin.Greenville Utilities said crews responded immediately to the incident, working to reduce the impact of the spill. The overflow was stopped by 8 p.m. Friday.Following the spill, crews treated the areas surrounding the affected manholes and downstream locations with a chlorine solution.As required by state regulations, Greenville Utilities notified the North Carolina Division of Water Resources about the spill.Officials did not report any injuries or additional impacts related to the incident.</div></body>
