Orange County could expect gusts up to 30 miles per hour along with three to four inches of rain Wednesday morning.Ardoin described the wind, rain, and Sabine Lake storm surge prediction as “basically a thunderstorm for this area.”The National Weather Service in Lake Charles, which forecasts for Orange County, said that in addition to the four to six inches of rain for Tuesday into Wednesday, some places isolated areas could get as much as 1.5 to 3 inches of rainfall in an hour. A heavy rate like that could lead to street flooding and perhaps flooding in houses.Even as the predicted tropical storm moves ashore, rains are expecteed to continue through the region into Saturday, leading to an ongoing flood warning.The National Weather Service in Lake Charles, which includes Orange County in its forecast area, says the county could get six to ten inches of rain through the rest of the week. The Wednesday storm will also bring surges from the Gulf of Mexico onshore making coastal flooding likely, which could add to inland flooding as waters from rains cannot drain out as fast.Texas Governor Greg Abbott Tuesday morning issued disaster declarations for Orange, Jefferson, Newton, and Jasper counties, along with dozens of others that could be affected by rains and winds.The hurricane center prediction calls for sea levels to run from two to four feet above normal from Port Bolivar, Texas, to Morgan City, Louisiana. Surge levels in Sabine Lake, which borders Bridge City and other parts of Orange County, are expected to be one to three feet. High tides during the storm surge could add more coastal flooding.On Monday, Orange County Precinct 4 Commissioner Robert Viator announced sand bag materials were available at the Precinct 4 barn at Gould Park in Vidor. Ardoin Tuesday evening said the four county precinct barns may have sand outside for people to use for sandbags, but there will be no on monitoring the sand to keep it filled.Tuesday afternoon, Orange Mayor Larry Spears Jr. talked to constituents to pay attention to weather information and warnings. He said people should not go out and empty grocery store shelves, though, and to leave goods for others.Entergy Texas has announced crews are ready to respond to power outages.The weather service in Lake Charles has regular weather updates on its website. People living in Orange County and Southeast Texas may also register with STAN, the Southeast Texas Alerting Network.
