Carolyn Sunseri, director of marketing relations for the Golden State Finance Authority, said this money will help families get out of fire-prone areas."Low and moderate income families don’t have the same amount of choices, this is helping them to have more choices to move outside of these high fire risk areas," Sunseri said.The loan will be fully forgiven after five years of residence in the new home; however, if the resident doesn't meet the five-year stay, 20% will be forgiven each year. In 2024, the first round of funds was not fully utilized, so the program is reopening with limited availability. "In the end, not all of them were able to utilize the funds, and so we still have a pool of funding available, and so we're re-releasing it and doing some more education work to get the word out," Sunseri said. Sunseri noted that only about 15 to 20 applicants will be approved on a first-come, first-served basis. An informational session will be held at Redding City Hall on Feb. 18, from 7 to 8 p.m., to provide home-buying assistance, what is needed to qualify, and to answer any attendees' questions.
