(WDAM) - Work continues on the Reservoir Road Bridge in Wayne County.Leaders said good weather has allowed contractors to make significant progress.On Sept. 18, the Board of Supervisors declared a state of emergency after an annual inspection showed concerns about the substructure of the bridge. As of Tuesday afternoon, 11 more piles were being driven into the ground to ensure a long-lasting fix.“The bridge itself was constructed around 1973, and it needed a lot of work on the substructure underneath the bridge,” Wayne County Community Affairs Officer Sean Dunlap said. “People couldn’t see it. If you drive across it, you couldn’t see.“But underneath we had some piles, wooden piles, in bad shape, and now, we’re going back in with steel piles. And this will give the bridge many, many years of life, and it will be a very safe bridge for our community.”Dunlap said the work could be completed as soon as the end of the week, but no more than two weeks.Want more WDAM 7 news in your inbox?
