These final improvements are essential for keeping our roadways in top shape during the colder months, and the Maine D.O.T. is asking residents to remain patient as crews wrap up several key projects across the county.D.O.T. crews are especially busy this time of year, tackling everything from paving to bridge repairs. Across Aroostook County, workers are racing against the clock to finish up summer projects before colder weather sets in. Bob Watson: Northern Region Manager of the M.D.O.T. says: “This time of year, is always busy for us from you know wrapping up summer projects. Our paving contractors especially are busy all over the county really. There’s 2 projects still going on in Van Buren up on Route 1. There’s several bridge projects still going on. There’s a bridge project on the West Gate Road. I’m sure anybody that travels up that way with that road being closed has noticed the impact. That should be wrapping up this fall. Watson says careful planning at the start of the season is key. Prioritizing which projects get tackled first is important to make sure crews can complete the most critical work before winter. Watson: “We start off with roads that are gonna be paved. We look at culverts that are under those roads. Is there anything that needs to be replaced because we don’t like to dig up freshly paved roads to replace culverts. We look at areas where we may have water problems and then we prioritize from there. What each crew has time to do, what we have the budget to do, and then we put our work plan together that way.”While the D.O.T. finishes up it’s summer projects they also have to start looking ahead to winter. Watson: “We never know what October’s gonna bring. We try to plan to have most of our work done by the end of September just because October’s so unpredictable. We like to use October to really get ready for winter. Put on our plows, and try everything out, and make sure everything’s gonna work.” Watson urges drivers to stay alert, slow down near work zones, and remain patient as crews wrap up critical summer projects and shift their focus to preparing for the challenges of winter weather.</div></body>
