<body><div><figure><img src="https://img.particlenews.com/image.php?type=thumbnail_580x000&amp;url=3XPzuh_1171Hvz000" alt="https://img.particlenews.com/image.php?url=3XPzuh_1171Hvz000" width="850" height="556" ></figure>The city is taking steps to discourage drivers from bypassing the stoplight at the intersection of Main Street and Holland Avenue.During last Tuesday’s meeting, aldermen were informed that motorists have been turning right onto Poplar Avenue, then left onto Jefferson Street, and right again onto Holland Avenue to avoid the light.To address the issue, the board has approved the installation of speed bumps and additional signage along both Poplar and Jefferson.“It seems that they are turning right on Poplar and trying to speed down to Jefferson to get ahead of the cars waiting at the light,” said Alderman-at-Large James Carson Waltman.According to Waltman, the speed bumps are already in stock, and crews are scheduled to install one strip on each street this week, weather permitting.In other action, aldermen voted unanimously to:• Approve a motion to pay Chad Wright Plumbing $4,500 for repairs and renovations at Westside Park.• Approve a motion to pay Freemond Carter Tree Trimming $1,250 for trimming at Westside Park and King Avenue out of the Bond B Account. • Approve a motion to accept the resignation of Deputy City Clerk Connie Spence, effective May 31.• Approve a motion to hire Kayla Townsend as Deputy City Clerk at $13.50 per hour, effective May 20, pending a drug screen.• Approve a motion to give Payroll Clerk Nicole Henley a promotional raise of $1 per hour.• Approve a motion to move Fair Day off-day from Thursday of Fair week to Friday of Fair week for the 2025 Neshoba County Fair.• Approve a motion to give Nathan Overstreet with the Street Department a $1 per hour probation raise.• Approve a motion to give Chontray Walker with the Street Department a $1 per hour promotional raise.• Approve a motion to allow a C-Spire road bore along Oak Street and Center Avenue.• Approve a motion to hire Daniel Ferguson full-time with the Cemetery Department at $10 per hour, effective May 12, pending drug screen.• Approve a motion to hire James Taylor with the Police Department as staff sergeant at $22 per hour, effective May 7.• Approve a motion to allow travel and pay for hotel costs for police officer Jessie Hamilton to attend accreditation training in Biloxi from June 18-19.• Approve a motion to process and auction drug-seized, abandoned guns and vehicles with Head Auction.• Approve a motion to replenish $200 in petty cash to the Police Department.• Approve a motion to accept the recommendation to terminate a man from the Cemetery Department, effective immediately.</div></body>
