Sources close to the situation are not entirely convinced the offer will land, but there is an acceptance that if it does, it could turn his head.Manchester City believe the La Liga title-chasers are the only club capable of seriously tempting the midfielder away at this stage of his career, but his admirers' ongoing financial issues might still work in the Sky Blues' favour. As such, they remain hopeful they can convince their £300,000-a-week star to stay for one final season. The reigning Premier League champions are planning a summer refresh of their attacking options, with Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White identified as a serious target.Xavi Simons and Francisco Trincao - of RB Leipzig and Sporting respectively - are among other names they have taken a close look at recently as they map out the next phase of their evolution.Bernardo is set to be out of contract at the end of next season, and there is no current expectation that he will sign an extension. However, there is a strong sense inside the club that he would remain a key player for at least another year if they can persuade him to stay.It is an interesting crossroads for Bernardo. If he stays put for one more campaign, he would become a free agent in the summer of 2026, leaving him in a position that would give him maximum control over the final chapter of his career. For now, Manchester City are hoping loyalty wins out once again and that one of Guardiola’s most trusted players will be part of their push into a new era.All statistics courtesy of Sofascore - correct as of 21/04/2025Sign up to The GIVEMESPORT Report to get exclusive daily updates from Fabrizio Romano, Ben Jacobs, Dean Jones and Tom Bogert sent straight to your inbox</div></body>
