Taylor Nicolaisen is meteorologist with the weather service's Valley, Nebraska office. Nicolaisen tells KMA News storms are expected to develop in eastern Nebraska--but the greatest threat is in southwest Iowa and northwest Missouri."Friday afternoon, maybe some of the first thunderstorms are popping up in Lincoln and Omaha," said Nicolaisen. "Really, the biggest threat will be a couple of isolated storms that could really produce some pretty significant winds. We're expecting winds of 60-to-70 mph, maybe even stronger than that."Though weather service officials aren't ruling out tornadoes, Nicolaisen says there's less of a chance here."I think around here, we're not really too worried about it," he said. "As those storms start to mature, and push their way off to the east, I think there is going to be some of that trouble. Getting closer to Des Moines and St. Louis, there's going to be that trouble. I think those storms are going to have a hard time producing that in this drier air in Nebraska. So, that's good news, as far as I'm concerned."Unfortunately, Nicolaisen says the storms won't produce tremendous rainfall amounts."One of the reasons why we're expecting some real strong winds is the lower levels of the atmosphere are really going to be dry," said Nicolaisen. "So, you're going to have a storm above you, it might be producing some rain or producing some hail. But, as that rain starts to fall down, it's going to evaporate into drier air, and you're going to get this big ball of colder, dry air that the rain evaporated, and you're going to get this ball of colder air falling out of the sky. And, it's going to produce some heavy wind gusts."With the storms, cooler temperatures are expected this weekend, with highs only in the lower-to-mid 50s. Another brief warmup is forecast the early part of next week before cooler weather and precipitation return mid-week.</div></body>
