"We believe in traditional American values."

Branch says more than 500 teachers from 35 states want to restore education.

"These public teachers want to fix that, kick out the unions and bring back the basics of teaching reading, math, writing and science. All that good stuff."

It's a cause Walters stands for, as Monday morning he showed his support online.

"I will never apologize for advocating for what’s best for Oklahoma kids, by listening to parents, listening to teachers and listening to folks in the community," Walters said. "It’s crystal clear: the teachers' unions and the status quo have failed in education. The teachers' unions need to be getting out of the way. We’re going to continue to bring the free market to our schools through things like merit pay, and things like teachers' signing bonuses."

Erica Watkins with the Defense of Democracy says by promoting the alliance, Walters is wasting time and resources.

"Sometimes I feel like I can't be surprised, but then each thing is more ridiculous," Watkins said. "This is a right-wing think tank. This is not a union. The anti-union rhetoric isn't anything new. We're wasting time and resources instead of actually advocating for teachers, better pay, smaller classroom size and the things that teachers actually do. This is what we're wasting time on because he wants to boost his profile. The same thing as always."

Walters says the Oklahoma Education Association (OEA) needs to get out of our schools.

"They need to quit pushing a woke agenda," Walters said. "They need to quit fighting against parents, and they need to get out of the way of the educational successes that we’re starting to see all over the state."

Fox 25 reached out to the state’s largest teacher organization, the OEA, but our newsroom didn't hear back.

Learn more about the TFA here.
