(WTOK) - Everybody has a story. Every item has a story, too.One man in Newton finds himself collecting often and abundantly to preserve decades of history.“Well, I guess it’s just in my nature. Growing up kinda poor, like most people did, I just like things. Probably didn’t have much when we was young. But yeah, I like stuff,” said Steve Dixon.Dixon was born into a military family in Eupora, Mississippi, and lived in five states before he was 11.Eventually, his family settled in California where Dixon worked and trained as a boxer.Dixon claims in 1978 he was the strongest man pound-for-pound on the central coast of California.Dixon’s collecting started with coke bottles when he was young. Then, he moved to cars. One in particular earned him the nickname ‘Rocking Caddy Daddy.’“One thing led to another. I bought an old ’75 Eldorado, and my nephew painted it candy pink. And, I put the long horns on there, and I started getting some attention. That Cadillac was probably the most amazing car in the world. It had TVs and high beams up the front. I had six 3,000-watt generators in it, and it had a projector. It would project a 25-foot music video onto skyscrapers with a world-class sound system,” said Dixon.Dixon moved to Biloxi in August of 2005; he spent just one night in his new house before Katrina swept it out to sea. That’s when he decided to settle in Newton. Now he restores houses and commercial buildings downtown while operating his very own private honky tonk on Main St. with his business partner Joey Capetillo. And every square inch is decorated with a tale to tell. One of Dixon’s favorite pieces is his shuffleboard, which the pair purchased in Nashville, Tennessee from the daughter of songwriter Tony Martin, who has fifteen number-one hits.In 2017, Dixon was named Newton Chamber of Commerce’s Man of the Year and is credited with the upturn of downtown.</div></body>
