<body><div><figure><img src="https://img.particlenews.com/image.php?type=thumbnail_580x000&amp;url=3X4BzP_0ygexCXi00" alt="https://img.particlenews.com/image.php?url=3X4BzP_0ygexCXi00" width="1024" height="768" ></figure>WAYNE – An audit was presented with restricted parking being adjusted around Wayne Elementary during the regularly scheduled Wayne City Council meeting.From the council chambers inside City Hall on Tuesday, Marcy Luth with AMGL out of Grand Island presented the fiscal year 2023-24 audit.The Audit Finance Committee met prior with Luth for about 45 minutes in more detail with no findings.Beth Porter, Finance Director said a comparison was provided.“With that benchmarking she just compares Wayne to like-size, similar communities to kind of show a standard to see where we fall within that,” said Porter. “Things she compared was valuations, our levy, where we’re at with our revenues compared to other communities, percentages where she’d like to see us be at.”Another area being good and bad is the City of Wayne’s debt levy has been incredibly low but has taken on about $10 million in debt from Prairie Park project, City Hall/Police Relocation and Park &amp; Rec building. This affects the sales tax with the property tax debt level still excellent.Payments were also made to Otte Construction for the ‘Wayne City Hall &amp; Police Relocation’ project for $218,267 along with ‘Wayne Parks &amp; Rec’ building for $54,333.An update was provided with the end of February being a possible target date with March being the soonest to move into the new city hall. The project had some issues with picking out paint colors and the amount of carpet squares along with cabinetry being a high priority for the contractor.City Administrator Wes Blecke added the Mayor would like to have an open house.“At some point to let the public come in before we’re officially moved so you can see the inner workings of the police department,” Blecke added. “Because it’s pretty impressive especially if you’ve seen what we’re in today and then you go to the new location, it’s night and day different.”The ‘Wayne Parks &amp; Rec’ building update is on schedule with items being moved out of the old Final Touch building later this month.Restricted parking around Wayne Elementary School was approved while also waiving the final three readings and moved for final approved. Restricted parking along Douglas Street will now be 7 – 8 a.m. and 3 – 4 p.m. while also along Sherman restricted parking from 7 – 8 a.m. Monday through Friday with signs being ordered.With the one and six year street improvement plan approved, any project to be worked on during 2025 will need to be on the one-year project. Three projects were highlighted being the sidewalk from the cemetery to Bomgaars, street work for the Vintage Hill Fourth Addition development and another development with commercial buildings and town homes.An extension request was submitted to the Nebraska Department of Economic Development for Community Development Block Grant funding for the sidewalk project. The extension would be from April 2025 to April 2026 following delays with engineering and NDOT review process.Council then went into close session on an update form Dave Peterson from JEO Consulting Group. The project is progressing being narrowed down to a couple of providers that submitted proposals for Southwest Power Pool Marking participant duties.Blecke mentioned he would like to see this done in the next month.“Because what it’s doing is it’s holding us up on the generation side,” Blecke mentioned. “Our engineer on the generation side is wanting to work with the new provider to try to make things line up with that. It just delays everything.”Dirt work is excepted to start in Spring of 2026.The next regularly scheduled Wayne City Council meeting is set for Tuesday, February 18.</div></body>
