Sunshine Gradually Returns this Weekend
By Summer Schnellbach,
2024-08-16FRIDAY EVENING: Some areas have seen some additional raindrops and light showers today, but the heaviest rain is behind us. While the light showers continue at times within the central valley and points east, some folks in eastern ND saw a few peeks of the sun today! Behind the rain, wildfire smoke is returning. It has been thick in parts of north-central ND today with unhealthy air quality. A plume of smoke is expected to arrive in the valley this evening, which has prompted MN to issue an Air Quality Alert for some of our NW MN counties along the Red River through Sunday. North Dakota does not issue these kinds of alerts, but unhealthy air quality is possible across eastern ND as well. Some members of the general public may experience health effects. Sensitive groups, such as people with lung disease (including asthma), heart disease, and children and older adults, may experience health effects without the proper precautions.
