Marvel actor Ryan Reynolds is reported to have penned a crucial scene in the film It Ends With Us, according to his wife and star of the movie, Blake Lively. The Gossip Girl actress plays Lily opposite Justin Baldoni's Ryle in the contentious film, which is an adaptation of Colleen Hoover's novel of the same title.

Lively's assertion that Reynolds re-scripted the well-known rooftop scene between the fictional pair has sparked annoyance among some fans for a particular reason. Speaking with People, Christy Hall, the screenwriter of the film, also responded to the claim.

She expressed pride in her work on the Baldoni-directed movie, stating that "the beats that needed to be honoured in that scene are preserved", before discussing whether Reynolds had a hand in the scriptwriting of It Ends With Us.

Hall explained that there were instances she believed had been "improvised" and these "few little flourishes" are what she now thinks may have been written by Reynolds. She also welcomed the changes, clarifying: "When I saw a cut I was like, 'Oh, that's cute. That must have been a cute improvised thing.'".

"So if I'm being told that Ryan wrote that, then great, how wonderful. There were a few little flourishes that I did not write, but I assumed that they had been improvised on set.", reports the Daily Star .

"But, again, like I said, the moments that I felt like needed to be honored are there. So I recognise the scene and I'm proud of the scene. And if those flourishes came from Ryan, I think that's wonderful."

However, some fans were left disgruntled with Reynolds after it came to light. There's speculation he might have penned the scene amidst the writer's strike, which spanned from May 2 to September 27, 2023, although no proof of this has been circulated.

TikTok user SaronThings speculated: "The woman who wrote the It Ends With Us screenplay, Christy Hall, said she turned in her script before the writer's strike. Then she rejoined production to give feedback during the editing process."

"She noticed that there were differences in some of the dialogue that she just assumed were improvisation. It wasn't until the premiere on August 6th that she found out along with everybody else that it was Ryan who had penned that dialogue."

"I need to know when that editing process was because if it was during or right after the writers' strike means it would have been written during the writers' strike," she continued.

Yet, there's nothing to indicate that Reynolds crafted the scene while the actors and crew were on strike, and plenty of other fans have commended the film's handling of the challenging scene.

This follows Lively's revelation to E! News: "The iconic rooftop scene, my husband actually wrote it. Nobody knows that, but you now."
