"I actually started off supporting Donald, and then I got to know him better," Mark Cuban said of former President Donald Trump in an interview with Vivek Ramaswamy on Wednesday.
    • Mark Cuban endorsed Kamala Harris, but he says he wasn't always against Donald Trump.
    • The "Shark Tank" star said he was once a Trump supporter until he realized how unethical Trump was.
    • In an interview with Vivek Ramaswamy, Cuban ripped Trump's errant record in business and politics.

Mark Cuban has made it clear that he won't vote for former President Donald Trump this November, but the "Shark Tank" star says he wasn't always against the GOP presidential nominee.

"I actually started off supporting Donald, and then I got to know him better," Cuban told the former Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy in an interview released on X and YouTube on Wednesday, adding: "I was like, he's great; he's not a typical Stepford candidate. I thought that was a positive."

He continued, "But then I got to know him."

Cuban said Trump had appealed to him mainly because he was an underdog who could disrupt the US political scene.

"I didn't think he had a chance, and so I just wanted to kind of, you know, screw things up in traditional politics that I'm not a fan of," he said.

But Cuban said he soured on the property mogul once he looked at his business and political record.

"The bigger point is Trump University. Trump SoHo. Stole $4 million from a friend of mine that had to sue to get it back. Mike Pence," Cuban said.

Cuban appeared to be referring to the fraud accusations that arose over the Trump University real-estate training program. Trump paid $25 million to settle ensuing lawsuits .

Cuban also mentioned the Trump SoHo, a luxury hotel that was rebranded as The Dominick in 2017 after the Trump Organization severed ties with it.

Trump SoHo was mired in controversies including the death of a construction worker in 2008 and accusations that the property had taken money from Russian backers.

Cuban also mentioned former Vice President Mike Pence . Pence's relationship with his onetime boss became strained after Pence certified the results of the 2020 election to Trump's ire.

"He was unethical then, and he's still unethical," Cuban said of Trump.

Representatives for Cuban and the Trump campaign didn't immediately respond to requests for comment from Business Insider sent outside regular business hours.

This isn't the first time Cuban has expressed disapproval of Trump's behavior.

In March, Cuban told Axios in an email that he'd vote for "Biden/Harris over Trump all day every day" because he didn't want a "snake oil salesperson as president."

Cuban echoed those points during his interview with Ramaswamy.

"You want somebody whose first inclination is not to do what's in their own best personal interest," Cuban said. "You can't deny that's Donald Trump."

You people should be focusing on the issues now instead of hearsay or personality attacks. What’s going to happen to the country??? More important than feelings. Freedoms importances gives us choices without government intervention and overreach. You haven’t seen nothing yet till Harris buffaloes her way in. Let’s see how she handled China and Russia, hummmm war and maybe more war. With an economy that’s almost certainly failing. That’s what we got for 4 years!
