BRIDGEWATER – The Somerset County 4-H Fair will open 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 8

The fair was originally scheduled to open Wednesday, but was cancelled because of the Tuesday's heavy rains and the threat of more rain.

Because of the saturated conditions, there will be no parking on the Milltown Road fairgrounds. Parking will be in lots 1, 2 and 5 at Raritan Valley Community College on Route 28 in Branchburg with shuttle buses to and from the fairgrounds all day.

Admission to the fair is free.

Fair officials say that if the weather changes, the decision to open the fair may be re-evaluated.

The fair is also scheduled to run 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday.

Updates will be posted on the Somerset County website.

The National Weather Service forecast for Thursday calls for an 80% chance of showers and a possible thunderstorm with precipitation of about a tenth to a quarter inch, but more if there is a thunderstorm.

The chance of showers and a possible thunderstorm rises to 90% on Friday with three-quarters to an inch of rain possible. Winds will also increase as the remnants of Hurricane Debby tracks northward through Pennsylvania.
