An error was made on a newly completed road project in Hoboken, adding to the flooding issues in the city, according to Mayor Ravi Bhalla. The mayor says a county contractor who paved the road on Park Avenue “accidentally” paved over storm drains right before a storm, and the flooding on the road had nowhere to go. Hoboken is known to flood whenever it rains hard and fast. The city
prepped for Tuesday's storms with signage and sandbags along Ninth Street between Madison and Monroe streets. News 12 was on the ground near the Park Avenue bridge where crews worked through the sweltering heat on Friday. Bhalla sounded off on social media and called the mistake “completely unacceptable on the part of Hudson County.” Bhalla claims his office raised issues about the problems with the county’s contractor and was ignored. However, officials from Hudson County deny that and say there are fixes in the works for any mistakes the contractor may have made.
