FORT INDIANTOWN GAP, Pa. (WHTM) — Nearly 50 soldiers with the Pennsylvania National Guard’s 213th Personnel Company are preparing for a year-long deployment to the Middle East.

They’re headed to Kuwait and Jordan over the next few months, where they’ll focus on security in the region.

Some of the soldiers are from the Midstate, including Franklin and Dauphin counties.

They were recognized at a ceremony Sunday morning at Fort Indiantown Gap.

“They pretty much know their job, they know exactly what they’re doing and they’re well prepared to do it,” Capt. Joseph Medvec, company commander, said. “It’s just going to be filling their time and making sure they’re able to stay in contact with family and friends.”

“I’m excited to do this but I’m definitely going to miss my family at home but having the support I have in my unit and going with them, they are my family,” Sgt. Alyssa Wenger said. “Yes, it will be difficult to be away from my family and friends here, but I know I’m going with people that I love and trust.”

There will also be a period of pre-mobilization training here in the U.S. before the soldiers deploy to the Middle East.
