NASHVILLE — Nash County has announced the appointment of two new department leaders. Mary Hogan will join the county government as finance director, and Marian Cascone has been selected as the next Nash County tax administrator.

“We are excited to welcome Mary and Marian to Nash County,” said County Manager Stacie Shatzer. “Both bring valuable experience and professionalism to two critical departments, and I believe they are the right fit as our organization continues to grow. I look forward to their contributions to our leadership team, and I know they will be dedicated to serving the residents of Nash County.”

Hogan has many years of local government finance experience, most recently serving as a supervisor of accounting services for the North Carolina League of Municipalities. She’s spent more than 10 years as a finance director for multiple municipalities, including the city of New Bern, the town of Holly Springs, the town of Smithfield and the city of Tybee Island, Georgia.

Cascone brings many years of experience in public service and real estate appraisal, most recently serving as the tax administrator for Franklin County. Outside of the public sector, she has 21 years of real estate appraisal experience, including owning and operating her own appraisal business in Florida for many years.

After moving to North Carolina in 2015, Cascone joined the North Carolina Real Estate Appraisers Association. She served on the association’s legislative committee and represented the organization at the Appraisal Foundation Advisory Council in Washington.

Hogan will step into the role of finance director on Aug. 12, working closely with outgoing Finance Director Donna Wood. Cascone will officially begin as tax administrator on Aug. 15, working alongside retiring Tax Administrator Doris Sumner.

Both Sumner and Wood will complete their tenure with Nash County on Aug. 31.
