Rhea County government recently announced the hiring of Rhea County Department of Tourism Director Alex Meagan Fine.

Fine was hired in June 2024, Rhea County Executive Jim Vincent said, and will be responsible for promoting Rhea County and drawing tourists to the area.

Fine said that she aims to have a positive impact on Rhea County and as part of her job will develop materials that will draw visitors to the area.

“The future holds endless possibilities, and I am eager to continue my journey of service, community involvement and personal growth,” she said. “I look forward to making a positive impact in Rhea County and helping to create a brighter future for all who call this beautiful place home.”

Fine was born in Chattanooga and was raised in Rhea County.

“I have always been deeply connected to my roots and the community that shaped me,” she said. “Growing up in this picturesque part of Tennessee provided me with a unique perspective on life, one that values community, hard work and the beauty of the natural world.”

Fine is a graduate of Middle Tennessee State University and has a master’s degree from Bryan College. From 2016 to 2018 she served as an international ambassador at Tono Education and Culture Foundation in Japan.

“One of the most significant experiences of my life was spending two years in Japan as an ambassador for the Japanese government to specifically increase tourism to Tennessee through a sister-city relationship,” Fine said. “This opportunity allowed me to immerse myself in a different culture, broaden my horizons and develop a global perspective.”

Fine said that her time in Japan not only enriched her personal life but also provided valuable professional experience.

Upon returning to the United States, she took a role at Bryan College in Dayton, TN, where she managed social media and website content, as well as other marketing efforts. This position allowed her to leverage her communication skills and creativity to enhance the college’s online presence and outreach efforts. Eventually, she landed in Rhea County government, taking on the role of tourism director.

“Today, I am proud to serve as the Rhea County Director of Tourism,” she said. “This role is a dream come true, allowing me to contribute to the community that has always been my home. I am dedicated to promoting Rhea County’s attractions, natural beauty and cultural heritage, helping to boost tourism and support local businesses.”

Fine resides in Dayton with her husband, Jed, and their 4-year-old daughter, Savannah.

“We care for many goats, chickens, ducks, a pig and a pony,” Fine said. “Farming and spending time outdoors are not just hobbies but passions that ground me and provide a deep sense of connection to the land.”

Fine’s office is currently under construction in downtown Dayton on Court Street in the old Rhea County Election Commission office beside the UT Extension Office. The Rhea County Department of Tourism can be contacted at rheacountytourism@gmail.com or (423) 775-4701.

I guess it won't be long before we see Japaneese Tour buses in Rhea Co. I moved here from Orlando Fl, the Tourism capital of the world... The one thing that I admired most about Rhea Co. was the lack of Tourist. Disney World turned my home town into a circus.
