Hollywood legend Shirley MacLaine, 90, makes rare outing in Malibu, as she is helped by pal

Shirley MacLaine was photographed in a rare public appearance in Malibu.

The Iconic veteran actress was seen eating at Kristy’s Village Cafe in Malibu, California , a beloved celebrity hotspot Shirley has visited previously, including on the Fourth of July.

In her rare public appearance, Shirley wore a green graphic shirt advertising a New Mexico general store, under a dark gray hooded sweatshirt, matching gray sweatpants and red shoes. Black-rimmed glasses adorned her face as she walked around with a small black bag.

In some of the photographs, the Steel Magnolias' star was seen holding the wrist of a young man as they walked outside together. He wore a two-piece camo tie-dye set consisting of a long sleeve shirt and shorts with black sneakers as well as a LA army green cap.

The Virginia native turned 90 this past April on the 24 and she spoke to PEOPLE about that milestone. She stated she was celebrating her birthday with an intimate dinner with friends. She also announced the release of a new book expected to be out October 22 that includes photos and stories from her life called The Wall of Life.

"I have lived a wonderful life and I wanted to share it," Shirley told the outlet. "All of the photos brought back such wonderful memories.”

She shared what she is most grateful as she celebrated her 90th birthday, was "that I can keep working." The Oscar-winner added: "I have my friends and I am really healthy.”

She currently filming a new film that takes place in Atlantic City called People Not Places. The film directed by Brad Furman follows Shirley's character's Clare who lives in Atlantic City and befriends a homeless man (Stephen Dorff). The indie drama had some problems in June when Variety reported that crew wasn;t paid and owed about $245,000. There was also "chaos" among the set with the director's alleged misconduct as well as his back and forth with principal financier, Jeff Katz, (who dropped out the project).

Shirley recently was in the Netflix romantic comedy A Family Affair featuring Zac Efron, Nicole Kidman, Joey King and Kathy Bates which came out on June 28. Before that, in 2022, she was in two episodes of Only Murders in the Building and a film called American Dreamer opposite Peter Dinklage.

Shirley acting career spans over 70 years, starting in the final years of Golden Age of Hollywood. She has received numerous accolades over the years such as Academy Award, an Emmy Award, two BAFTA Awards, six Golden Globe Awards, two Volpi Cups, and two Silver Bears.
