CNN Anchor Quickly Corrects ‘Horrible Choice of Words’ After Saying Dems Are ‘Shooting At Their Own Nominee’ With Calls to Replace Biden

CNN anchor Erin Burnett backtracked Friday while using a figure of speech that would not have been taboo a week ago when she said Democrats had been succeeding in “shooting at” President Joe Biden through calls for him to drop out of the race.

Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) called for Biden to end his campaign on Friday evening, joining a growing list of powerful Democrats asking Biden to call it quits after his disastrous debate performance last month against former President Donald Trump in Georgia.

Since that debate, Biden has been increasingly viewed as a liability for vulnerable Democrats who could suffer heavily if he loses to Trump in November. Down-ballot races in Ohio and Montana in the Senate could decide the balance of power beginning in January.

Many House Democrats are also reportedly concerned that if Biden faces Trump and loses, he would help the GOP walk away from Nov. 5 with the White House, both chambers of Congress and the Supreme Court’s conservative majority.

While discussing the mounting calls for Biden to walk away from his dream of a second term, Burnett turned to CNN senior political correspondent Abby Phillip to discuss the fact that Biden’s beleaguered campaign reportedly has him rattled.

“Democrats have done a really good job at shooting at their own nominee,” Burnett said before she immediately stopped and acknowledged the choice of words was not the best for the moment.

“Horrible choice of words,” the veteran and very self-aware anchor told Phillips. “I shouldn’t have used those words.”

Burnett went on to explain that in her estimation, Biden’s Democratic Party detractors had been successful in sounding the alarm that his candidacy might be doomed and could doom others.

Her choice of words likely would not have turned a single head last Friday but a day later – last Saturday – Trump survived an assassination attempt while he addressed a crowd in Butler Pennsylvania. One of his supporters was killed and two more were wounded.

That shooting and Biden’s fight for his political life have dominated the last week’s news cycles.
