The Clawson Planning Commission approved a site plan for a redevelopment project on May 28 to begin exterior improvements of the old Avery Hasler building at 14 E. 14 Mile Street . According to an update published by the City of Clawson, the first floor will be occupied by Satellite , a popular food truck based in Ferndale.

Founded in 2021 by Michael Finsilver and chef Brennan Calnin , Satellite’s menu includes burgers, bowls, and tacos. The pair also started a second food truck concept called Hell Yeah Dogs tat serves extra fly hot dogs and nachos in Downtown Detroit.

Prior to Satellite, Calnin served as head chef at Ferndale mainstays Imperial and Public House and later opened Town House downtown. Now, it looks like the chef is returning to her brick-and-mortar roots as Satellite eyes a physical location in an upcoming development project that will put the Avery Hasler building to use.

Plans submitted shows the first floor restaurant space has three dining areas and a bar, whereas the second floor includes a VR room, a lounge, a workspace, a bar, and an arcade. The project will demolish existing brick and windows on the ground floor to create new sidewalk-level and alley cafe openings, which will connect to an outdoor patio area with additional seating.
