    North Carolina Couple 'Both Had Tears Of Joy' After $100,000 Lottery Win

    A lucky couple in North Carolina were moved to tears in the best way after scoring a huge lottery win .

    Karen Lee-Nix , of Archdale, was enjoying watching a movie in her rocking chair last week when her husband, David Nix , surprised her with the news they had landed a $100,000 prize, according to a release from the NC Education Lottery .

    "I asked her to pause the movie," Nix told lottery officials. "Then I said, 'We just won $100,000.'"

    Nix had picked up a $10 Million Spectacular scratch-off lottery ticket from the Zingo Express on Liberty Road, telling officials, "I always have a positive attitude and think that somebody is going to win so it might as well be me."

    His intuition was spot on this time as the ticket earned them one of the game's incredible $100,000 prizes. The $10 Million Spectacular launched in December with five $10 million top prizes, 20 $1 million prizes and 20 $100,000 prizes.

    "I brought tears to my eyes ," Lee-Nix said. "We both had tears of joy."

    The married Randolph County couple collected their prized at lottery headquarters on Wednesday (July 10), each claiming $50,000, coming out to $35,757 each after all required state and federal tax withholdings. According to lottery officials, they plan to use their winnings for improvements around their house, paying some bills and putting the res in savings.
