Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office investigating human remains found on property

CALHOUN COUNTY, Fla. ( WMBB ) – On Sunday, a Calhoun County resident went to check on his property near Isoletta Lane when he discovered decomposed human remains.

Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office has identified the body as James Howard Black Jr.

Black had been released from prison on May 21, 2024, and has been occasionally staying in a camper near where he was found. There was a pouch located near the body that contained 1 ounce of an illegal narcotic, according to officials.

The cause of death is still undetermined at this time. The FDLE Mobile Crime Lab, 14th District Medical Examiners Office, an investigator from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, and an investigator from the State Attorney’s Office were called to the scene.
