UFC middleweight champion Dricus Du Plessis is a big fan of Conor McGregor and in his opinion, so should every fighter.

The impact that "The Notorious" has had on the sport is simply unmatched when it comes to how he has helped MMA to become mainstream.

No one has ever pulled fans in quite like McGregor and that is still true to this day given the response and buzz around his upcoming comeback fight at UFC 303.

His personality has proven to be divisive but it can't be denied that without what he has accomplished in his career, the state of MMA could be very different in 2024.

Dricus Du Plessis Says All Fighters Should Respect Conor McGregor For What He Has Done

Du Plessis brought up McGregor during a recent podcast interview on The Sias du Plessis show.

When talking about his brief experience with working as an actor which then saw him pay McGregor his dues for his recent appearance in Road House.

"I mean that guy, everything he touches [turns to gold] man. He's such a legend in this sport, what he's done for the sport. He's transformed it into such a mainstream sport."

Du Plessis went on to talk about his previous encounters with McGregor and what it has been like to meet him away from all the cameras.

"Stillknocks" said that whilst he understands why some may see "The Notorious" as a love or hate type personality, the impact he has had on fighters and their ability to make a living in the sport should be given the recognition it deserves.

"I can understand disliking the persona but knowing, I don't know him personally but meeting him, different person and even if you don't like him, you can't ever discredit what he's done for this sport because every single fighter needs to thank him in my opinion for the raise in pay, the raise in awareness for this sport cuz I think Conor McGregor might be one of the most famous people on earth."
