    King Charles' swollen 'sausage fingers' completely shadows visitor as he fist-bumps him

    Talks of King Charles ' "sausage fingers" are making a comeback.

    The monarch recently met with 2024 Prince's Trust Award winners and ambassadors in a reception at Buckingham Palace on May 22. The Prince's Trust Awards recognize those from "disadvantaged communities and those facing the greatest adversity" who have overcome challenges and affect positive change in their communities.

    The 75-year-old was seen at the event greeting television presenter Tyler West with a fist pump. His notable "sausage fingers" were in display in the photo as they curled into a fist. It was something that had people talking again.

    Earlier this year, Charles took some time away from public-facing duties as he revealed he was diagnosed with cancer in February. He was given the clear to return to public royal duties in April.

    The former Prince of Wales and his "sausage fingers" go way back. He has made many light-hearted references to his fingers over the years. The the earliest known to the public is when Prince William was born and he wrote a letter to his friend about William's baby fingers.

    In Howard Hodgson’s biography Charles, The Man Who Will Be King, The King wrote: "I can’t tell you how excited and proud I am. He really does look surprisingly appetising and has sausage fingers just like mine."

    Charles also joked about his fingers with his son, Prince William, during one of the final rehearsals for his coronation in a scene shown in the BBC documentary Charles III: The Coronation Year, which aired on Boxing Day. In the scene, William is trying to close the embroidered golden cloak around his father and jokes, "On the day it's not going to go in, is it?" Charles laughingly responded "No, [but] you haven't got sausage fingers like mine!"

    GP Chun Tang, Medical Director at Pall Mall Medical in Manchester offered some insight to Charles' puffy finger and the possible causes to the Daily Mail.

    Dr Chang told the outlet: "Often puffy fingers are a symptom of water retention which can be caused by numerous health conditions. This condition arises due to inflammation and can be a result of arthritis, multiple bacterial infections or even TB. Other possibilities include high salt levels, allergic reactions, medicinal side effects, injury and autoimmune disease."

    Dactylitis is the technical and medical term for said "sausage fingers" and it means severe swelling that affects your fingers and toes.
