    Sanders calls special elections for Benton County Justice of the Peace nominees

    LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders calls for a special election on May 16 to decide on the Republican and Democrat nominees to run for the Benton County District 4 Justice of the Peace seat.

    According to a press release, the Benton County Election Commission certified the results of the March 5 primary elections for the Republican and Democrat nominees. The candidates were running unopposed but have withdrawn from their respective races, leaving vacancies for the nominations.

    The governor wants a special convention of the Benton County Republican Committee to be held no later than June 21 and no later than June 10 for the Democratic Party Committee.

    Republican candidates can begin filing for the race at noon on May 20. The deadline for filing is noon on May 24.

    Democratic candidates can begin filing on June 3. The deadline for filing is June 10.

    A certificate of nomination must be sent to the Benton County Clerk and Benton County Election Commission no later than June 14 for the Democratic Party and no later than June 28 for the Republican Party.
