Following Rory McIlroy's divorce from Erica Stoll, Brooks Koepka paid tribute to his wife, Jena Sims, on Instagram, to which Caroline Wozniacki, McIlroy's ex-fiancee, quickly responded . The Northern Ireland golfer submitted the divorce papers on Monday in Florida , with his team confirming the news on Tuesday evening, after which Koepka shared a post honoring Sims.
Notably, Wozniacki, who is close friends with Koepka, followed him at last year's Masters alongside her husband, former basketball star David Lee. The tennis ace swapped vows with the NBA veteran in 2019 - five years after she was initially scheduled to marry McIlroy - and they have since welcomed two children into their lives
The Koepkas became first-time parents just last year. And Brooks' Instagram post celebrated Sims making her first-ever appearance in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, reports the Mirror .
The caption under the shot of Sims modeling a bikini read: "So proud of you (Jena Sims) amazing to see what hard work can do! I love you!"
In response to the post, Wozniacki promptly chimed in with: "Hot mama," and threw in three flame emojis for good measure. Not to be outdone, both Koepka and Sims are backing their friend's return to the WTA Tour this year following a hiatus to start a family.
The tennis star opened up about her relationship with Lee, which came to light three years after McIlroy called off their engagement. They parted ways in May 2014, over two years into the relationship.
The split occurred shortly after the pair had sent out wedding invitations. While McIlroy described the breakup as mutual and friendly, Wozniacki later revealed it ended abruptly with a short phone call initiated by the golfer from Northern Ireland .
She admitted there's been no communication between them since the split.
Stoll had met McIlroy more than a year before he was back on the singles market, during her time working for the US PGA at the 2012 Ryder Cup in Medinah.
Their romance sparked three years later, following McIlroy's split from Wozniacki. Not long after they started dating, McIlroy popped the question in Paris, and by the end of that year, they were engaged. The couple tied the knot in April 2017 and welcomed their first child three later.
In the divorce proceedings, their daughter Poppy is mentioned, with McIlroy seeking shared custody. The documents refer to the marriage as "irretrievably broken."
On Tuesday evening, McIlroy's PR team said: "Rory's desire is to ensure this difficult time is as respectful and amicable as possible," it stated. "He won't be making any further comment."
This announcement comes just before the PGA Championship tees off. McIlroy , coming off two consecutive PGA Tour victories, is looking to unseat reigning champion Koepka.
The Northern Irish golfer aims to match his American rival's five major titles at Valhalla Golf Club, the same venue where he won his last title a decade ago, coincidentally in the same month he parted ways with Wozniacki.
