While Eliot Wolf served as the de facto general manager leading up to and during the 2024 NFL Draft, the New England Patriots officially opened the search for someone permanent at the beginning of this week.

However, instead of naming an official general manager, the Patriots will have someone in a similar position, but without that exact title.

According to MMQB's Albert Breer , the Patriots registered a new official job title with the league office: Executive Vice President of Player Personnel.

Since Robert Kraft bought the team in 1994, only three people have held the de facto general manager title - Bill Parcells, Bill Belichick, and now Wolf. But no one ever was ever named the official general manager.

So the team deciding not to name someone official isn't much as a surprise.

Eliot Wolf remains the strongest candidate for the position, but New England also brought in former Carolina salary cap expert Samir Suleiman and Philadelphia Eagles executive Brandon Hunt.

Three candidates had also turned down an interview with the Patriots - Cincinnati Bengals senior personnel executive Trey Brown, former Arizona Cardinals vice president of player personnel Quentin Harris, and Buffalo Bills director of player personnel Terrance Gray.

So let's see who officially gets this new title.
