Each week, the Carroll County Times highlights a Team of the Week, five standout players and top statistical performances.

    Team of the Week

    Century boys lacrosse

The Knights’ 8-7 win over Liberty last Monday clinched the Carroll County championship. Century has already completed county play with a 5-1 league record. Westminster can still match the Knights’ record if it beats South Carroll on Friday, but Century holds the head-to-head victory over the Owls.

Century beat Westminster, 6-5, on April 18. It was one of four Century county victories — Liberty, South Carroll and Manchester Valley are the others — to come by two or fewer goals.

    Honorable mentions

Century girls lacrosse: The Knights opened last week with a decisive 11-5 win over rival Liberty, and followed with nonconference wins over Fallston and Pikesville.

Liberty baseball: Coming off a two-game losing streak, the Lions flipped the switch this week with wins over Francis Scott Key and Winters Mill to reclaim first place in the county standings.

Winters Mill boys track and field: The Falcons finished in second place over the weekend at Catoctin’s Cougar Mountain Bash. Deon Whitlow (100 meters), Isaiah Rivera (200) and Collin Mackie (pole vault) were event winners.

    5-star players

Jasmine Kline, Francis Scott Key, softball: The reigning Carroll County Times Player of the Year had a milestone week. She recorded her 400th career strikeout in Friday’s win over Westminster and also hit two home runs and drove in five runs in the game.

Grant Miller, Manchester Valley, boys lacrosse: Miller set the high mark for Carroll County boys lacrosse players this season with nine goals, which included the overtime game-winner, in Wednesday’s 15-14 win over Middletown.

Kate McAlonan, Westminster, girls lacrosse: McAlonan took over the county assist lead with a phenomenal week. She had six assists in a win last Monday against Winters Mill, then added five more helpers in a nonconference win over Towson. She also scored a goal in each game.

Delaney Sandbank, Century, girls lacrosse: Sandbank was crucial in the Knights’ win over rival Liberty with five goals and two assists. She followed that up with a three-goal, two-assist performance against Fallston. She has 29 goals and 24 assists this season.

Chase Miller, Liberty, baseball: Miller had a strong week at the plate in two Liberty wins, going 2-for-4 with two RBIs in each game on Wednesday over Winters Mill and last Monday over Francis Scott Key. He was also the winning pitcher against the Falcons.
