1 arrested after fatal shooting in Blount County

MARYVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — The Blount County Sheriff’s office is investigating after one person was killed in a shooting on Pryor Road.

Deputies responded to a residence on Pryor Road around 10:30 p.m. on Friday after receiving a report that someone had been shot. At the home, deputies found Corey D. Baerns, 54, outside of the residence suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead after arriving at the hospital.

A short time later, deputies located and took Jeffrey Dain Rimback, 31, of Rockford into custody at the home. He has been charged with false reports. He is being held in the Blount County Correctional Facility on a $100,000 bond. A hearing has been scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on April 29, 2024.
