I know how this sounds… a writer who doesn’t care for reading.

For as long as I can remember, I have never been one who has loved just sitting down and picking up a book to read in my free time.

I am not sure why, but I just haven’t. I tried several times to sit down and read different books and was never able to get into them.

Maybe it has been the genre of books I have been trying to read, fiction or nonfiction, etc. I really am not sure, I honestly just gave up when the few I tried did not work.

Fast forward to one morning recently, I woke up and knew I would be helping out at my son’s school and would need something to bide the time.

I texted a friend that I knew may have something that I could dive into and try to get into reading and, what do you know, she did. She brought me the book "Where the Crawdads Sing."

I decided I would sit down and give it a shot, in which I made it farther in than I have any other book I have started to read. Surprisingly, I also plan to continue to read the book until the end.

I have always heard things about reading a book and watching a movie. Well, I just happened to have watched this movie when it first came out.

So far the book is much like the movie, but I cannot wait to get farther into the book to see if it continues to be like the movie.

Maybe, this is the changing point and I will actually begin to enjoy reading. Yes, I read things at work all the time. But they do not take me days or weeks at a time to read, as a book would.

Maybe in a few weeks I can report back and let everyone know if I finished the book and how similar it is to the movie. Maybe even this column will hold me accountable to actually finish the book.

For someone that is a wife, mom, daughter and sister, I plan to make time to sit down and read this book and finish it until the end. Some days and weeks I am sure I will have more time than others, but we will get it done.

Come back in about three weeks and I will have an update of if I have made time in my busy schedule to finish or how far I have gotten. Right now I am a little less than 300 pages in.
