BRISTOL, Fla. ( WMBB ) — This week’s Scholar-Athlete of the Week sponsored by Perry and Young P.A. is Liberty County’s Gabrie Flowers.

At Liberty County High School, the girl’s sports programs have set the standard with both volleyball and softball winning state titles last year.

One of the athletes on both rosters is Gabrie Flowers.

“She’s a competitor,” Liberty County head softball coach Jennifer Sewell said. “She hates losing. If she feels like she’s not doing good she’s gonna put in extra work and extra time to get better at it.”

Flowers has competed on four different teams at Liberty County, including volleyball, softball, basketball, and cross country.

“My whole life I’ve been a competitor,” Flowers said. “We can play rock paper scissors, tic tac toe, anything.”

In her senior season, Flowers stepped away from volleyball to focus on softball.

“Gabrie is just a jack of all trades,” Sewell said. “She can hit, she can play defense. When we need a big hit or a big play, she comes through. Our team leans on her a lot when we need a big play or hit. She’s just one of those athletes you wish you had more of.”

The goal in her final season is to earn her third state championship ring.

“We would love to go out on top because this is what we’ve been working for,” Flowers said. “We have the arsenal. We’ve just got to make our minds up and decide that’s how we want to go out.”

Flowers has been verbally committed to Chipola for over a year, but recently signed her letter of intent to play softball for the Lady Indians.

“It’s my favorite,” Flowers said. “It’s the most fun. I love playing it. Of course, it’s a game of failure and some people let that get to them but I love competition.”

Flowers is also competitive in the classroom where she has a 4.25 GPA.

“I became much more competitive in the classroom and that transferred onto the field,” Flowers said.

She is currently undecided on what she wants to study in college but is leaning toward business or something in the medical field.
