CAROLINE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — A person is still unaccounted for after a vessel capsized on the Rappahannock River Friday night.

According to King George County Department of Fire, its units were requested at about 9:48 p.m. on Friday, April 26, to support a water rescue on a stretch of the Rappahannock River in Caroline County.

While out on the water, a vessel carrying three people reportedly capsized. According to fire officials, one person was able to swim to shore and another was saved by a good samaritan in their own vessel.

The first two people were already out of the water by the time King George fire crews arrived. However, the third person remained unaccounted for.

“Due to the nature of water-related incidents, it takes a vast amount of resources, specialized training [and] coordination between jurisdictions,” the Facebook post about this incident shared by fire officials reads. “Search efforts were conducted via ground teams, boats from multiple jurisdictions & private vessels, unmanned aerial vehicles, and VSP Medflight helicopter. Thermal imaging along with side scan sonar were used in attempts to locate the 3rd victim.”
