Due to the closure of Cal Poly Humboldt, the Humboldt Calypso Band has moved its concert location for Saturday night.

On Thursday, members of the band were allowed access to campus to retrieve their drums and instruments.

Saturday’s concert was initially scheduled for the Van Duzer Theatre, so when campus was closed, it looked like the concert would be cancelled.

“We have collective hours, over 60 in rehearsal together. And then on top of that, hundreds of hours. I don’t mean a hundred or two,” Dr. Eugene Novotney, professor of music said. “You add up everybody together, 50 members of that band? We’re talking about 500 hours of individual practice on top of that. So we are so happy that we actually get to represent our work.”

The Humboldt Calypso Band concert, featuring award-winning steelpan recording artist, Andy Narrell, will be Saturday, April 27th at Blue Lake Elementary School in the auditorium, starting at 8 p.m.

Admission is free to the public.
