WINDSOR, N.C. (WNCT) — The Bertie County Sheriff’s Office has arrested three teens in connection with a shooting that injured a man back in March.

Bertie County Sheriff Tyrone Ruffin said three teens were taken into custody. They have been charged in the March 31 shooting of a man, who was not identified. The teens have since been taken to the Pitt Regional Juvenile Center in Greenville.

On March 31, deputies were dispatched to the 3900 block of Governors Road in Kelford for a report of a man who was found with gunshot wounds. Deputies found the man, who was later airlifted to ECU Health in Greenville. The victim was expected to make a full recovery.

Deputies secured and preserved the crime scene and, with the help of the BCSO Investigative Division, began their preliminary investigation. Investigators quickly identified the three juveniles as suspects.

“I’m so proud to be able to so quickly report that in such a short period of time since the incident the Investigative Division of our office has worked tirelessly to solve this case,” Ruffin said. “Our mission remains to stop these acts of senseless violence involving guns and drugs in Bertie County providing more peace and safety throughout each community, ensuring a safer place to live, work, play, and worship.

“It’s so important that we all do our part now more than ever to talk with the youth of our communities and work to lead and guide them towards a more positive productive way of life.”
