‘90210’s Tori Spelling And Shannen Doherty Open Up About Their Rocky Friendship
15 days ago
Shannen Doherty had co-star Tori Spelling join her on a recent episode of the Let’s Be Clear podcast, where they discussed their friendship and its ups and downs. The discussion was inspired by their recent meetup on a flight from Pittsburgh, where they “were trying to figure out” the “pivotal moment” their friendship collapsed.
Tori owned up to being a “swayer,” calling it her downfall, while Shannen zeroed in on that fact. They were previously in relationships with men who went on to become friends and “better to each other than they were to us.” The 90210 stars had equally toxic situations with their ex-boyfriends which caused them to lose touch with each other.

For Shannen, being Tori’s friend “was very frustrating for me because I always used to tell you like, ‘Yeah, Tor, have an opinion.’”
“You were always easily swayed. Like, you’re smart, you’re funny, you’re talented. I loved you and I respected you and I wanted you to believe in yourself as much as I believed in you,” the Hot Seats star explained. “So then, seeing you get swayed, and our friendship ending.”
Shannen, who recently turned 53, considered Tori’s lover to be her “weak point,” and “kind of just went, I can’t keep fighting for this.” She could not bear watching Tori get verbally and physically abused by the boyfriend in question and often encouraged her to walk away. “I specifically remember looking at you and saying, ‘You have to end it with him, or I’m going to actually kill him. Like— I can’t stand by and watch this,’” Shannen recalled.
Shannen’s efforts to save their declining friendship were futile at the time since Tori remained in her draining relationship. “All I could think is that, ’cause you didn’t break up with him. You stayed, and you got tortured for a little bit longer, but we sort of started drifting apart,” she explained, also recounting times on set when Tori hardly fought for her and got “swayed” by castmates.
On one occasion, Shannen suggested they buy something else for the crew rather than a van. “I remember that particular moment. I was really conflicted, because I had everyone coming at me like, you have to be on this side or that side, and it’s like why? It was one against many, and I was young, and, you know what, f— that. I got easily swayed,” Tori said apologetically. She also owned up to her fault in another instance when Shannen posed for Rolling Stone with the late Luke Perry and Jason Priestley. “I still can’t speak up for myself sometimes— at 50,” she pleaded.
