VERMILLION COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — As part of Vermillion County’s bicentennial celebration this year, local 4th graders got to visit the courthouse and explore the judicial process on Friday.

Amanda Heber is the Economic Development Office Manager with Vermillion County and she said the students got to do everything from learning about courthouse security, to singing the county happy birthday, to meeting the judge.

There was also a ceremonial groundbreaking for the time capsule to be buried and Heber commented on the enjoyment of seeing all the students’ letters.

“They seem to have a great time,” Heber said. “It’s hard to tell when you’re my age whether a 10 or 11-year-old is, and how excited they are, but I’ll tell you, their letters were very moving. Some of them were funny, and some of them almost made me cry as to what they what they look to do in the future, and how they anticipate seeing themselves 50 years from now.”

Heber said that the time capsule will be buried Saturday at noon.
