Since Die Hard actor Bruce Willis was diagnosed with Frontotemporal Dementia last year, his family consisting of his ex-wife Demi Moore, their three daughters— Rumer, Scout, and Tallulah, his current wife Emma Heming and their girls— Evelyn Penn and Mabel, have grown closer than ever in a bid to support him.

Demi has been public about her concerns for Bruce, whom she split from in 1998. In a recent interview, she admitted to letting go “of who they’ve been or who you think they should be, or who even you would like them to be,” and “stay in the present and take in the joy and the love that is present.”

A source gave details about Demi’s reality as she watches Bruce’s health deteriorate, noting that she has a new outlook on life. “She’s feeling extremely grateful and emotional,” the source explained. “She’s been going over her life with him and is thankful for all the things they’ve been through.”

The insider further told In Touch that Demi is preparing herself for the 69-year-old’s passing as there is hardly any hope in sight. “Seeing him go through his struggles has shown Demi how to be a fighter. It’s so bittersweet, but also inspiring. She admires Bruce so much, and she’s preparing herself for their emotional goodbye,” they told the outlet.

The tipster also revealed Demi often recalls her marriage to Bruce, and how he “let their daughters be who they wanted to be.” He had helped her regain confidence when she struggled with eating disorders and childhood trauma, reminding her that “inner beauty and confidence come from within.” This is a contrast to the content of her 2019 memoir, Inside Out, where she described him as controlling and not welcoming of her choice to work as a mother to young kids.

She also noted that he was more committed to being a dutiful father than a husband, however, they split amicably and have remained friends ever since. “It’s a funny thing to say, but I’m very proud of our divorce,” she wrote, adding that it “wasn’t easy at first. But we managed to move the heart of our relationship, the heart of what created our family, into something new that gave the girls a loving, supportive environment with both parents.”
