A round of all things Vinton and Jackson counties…
First, the Vinton County Wild Turkey Festival queen’s pageant was last Saturday in the Vinton County High School cafeteria. A new queen and court will be crowned around 7 p.m. Saturday, May 4 at the big stage in downtown McArthur. Usually, there is a pretty big crowd who turns out for the coronation. Can’t wait.
Candidates are Emma Maynard, Joycelynn Toomey, Jessica Wells, Cassidy Graham, Justice Adkins, Lydia Mayers, Deavon Farley, Caryssa Brisker, Zoey Sowers, Caylinn Seckman, Aubree Reyna, Grace Workman and Rylie Bobb.
The Little Miss Wild Turkey Pageant was Saturday in the VCHS cafeteria. The Little Miss and two attendants will be crowned at the festival around 2:30 p.m. Sunday, May 5 at the Main Stage.
Contestants are Jordynn Perry, Emily McDaniel, Grayson Albright, Layla Barnhart, Brynlee French, Olive Butcher, Paisley Herrold and Brynlee Clary.
On that note, voting has begun for the People’s Choice honoree — big queen or little queen — with the pageant accepting PayPal votes for our queens contestants.

In other news, while there’s other news happening, let’s end on a high note. I probably should’ve put this in my sports round-up — Congrats to Marcus Games who has been named 22nd Head Coach of the Vikings’ football team. Games served as wrestling coach this past season too.
Speaking of coaches, Oak Hill boys’ and girls’ basketball coach Doug Hale will be inducted into the Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame this weekend.
