David Abbasi charged with 2 misdemeanors

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Prosecutors have filed two misdemeanor counts against former Kern County Board of Supervisors candidate David Abbasi on allegations he made annoying or harassing calls to 911, and made annoying calls to a residence by using obscene language or threats.

The charges were filed Tuesday, according to court records.

Abbasi was arrested twice last month, first for repeatedly calling 911. Abbasi told 17 News he called the emergency number multiple times because a neighbor with whom he shares a wall was smoking indoors and he feared the smoke would trigger an asthma attack.

Within a week, Abbasi was arrested again, this time for alleged annoying calls to a residence.

In 2020, Abbasi pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge of carrying a concealed firearm in public and was sentenced to four years’ probation for brandishing a gun at a teen when their dogs began fighting. Abbasi, who said he acted in self-defense, did not have a concealed weapons permit and was carrying the gun illegally, according to police.
