HONOLULU (KHON2) — Through Friday, strong trade winds will persist, with increased trade wind showers until Thursday morning as a band of clouds moves across the islands. These showers will mainly develop over windward and mountainous regions, particularly during the overnight and early morning hours. As high pressure weakens to the north and a low pressure system intensifies far northwest of the island chain, trade wind speeds will slightly diminish over the weekend.

An extensive band of rain clouds is advancing towards Hawaii from the east within the trade wind flow. This band will bring showers primarily to windward and mountainous areas, with a focus on the overnight and early morning periods, likely extending into Thursday morning.

A high pressure system will persist approximately 1000 miles northeast of the island chain through Friday, sustaining the brisk trade winds over Hawaii. By Saturday, this high will shift further east, leading to a reduction in trade wind speeds as a cutoff low pressure system deepens around 1000 miles northwest of Kauai. Although this low remains too distant to directly affect the islands’ weather, anticipate a moderation of trade wind speeds from Saturday into Sunday. The weekend forecast indicates predominantly dry and sunny conditions, ideal for outdoor fun.
