WILLIAMSBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – Authorities arrested a man in connection with a Williamsburg County arson investigation.

Deputies with the Williamsburg County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) and first responders were dispatched to a home off North Lane Road on Saturday regarding a fire that stemmed from a domestic dispute.

The house was fully engulfed when deputies arrived.

An investigation revealed the victim and 28-year-old Jaquan Tyriq Simmons were involved in a disagreement before the fire started.

The victim walked out of the residence and then re-entered to find an item. Once back inside, the sheriff’s office said the victim noticed a fire and called public safety for help.

Simmons had initially left the scene; he was found on Broomstraw Road in the Lane area of Williamsburg County where he was arrested and taken to the Williamsburg County Detention Center.

According to arrest warrants, Simmons told the victim “I will set the whole f****** block on fire,” and had thrown items around the home before the fire.

Simmons faces domestic violence and second-degree arson charges.

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) Arson Unit was asked to process the scene.

The investigation is ongoing.
