HONOLULU (KHON2) — Mostly dry weather with trade winds will continue through next week. The northeast trade winds will calm down a bit over the weekend but will pick up again from the east early next week. Clouds and showers will mainly affect the windward and mauka areas, mostly at night and early in the morning, as moisture moves through occasionally.

High pressure to the far north-northwest will move eastward and eventually north of the state. This will keep the trade wind pattern steady until late next week.

Moisture left over from an old front, enhanced by an upper level low moving away, is passing down the island chain tonight. This moisture band will move south overnight, bringing extra showers to windward areas of Maui County before it fades by Friday.

The weather will return to a drier pattern with trade winds after this moisture passes. Expect clouds and showers to arrive with the trade winds, mainly over windward areas at night and in the morning. The western slopes of the Big Island might see some clouds and a few showers in the afternoons and evenings.

The trade winds will be strong on Friday but will become lighter over the weekend due to a nearby low pressure system passing far to the north. The edge of a mid to upper-level love from this system may slightly increase showers on the windward sides late Friday into the weekend. Drier conditions will resume early next week with stronger easterly trade winds as the atmosphere stabilizes and the pressure ridge strengthens.
