Deputies said that 80-year-old William Mills, of Gray, was pulling a trailer with his tractor when he went to open the gate. The tractor was reportedly found in neutral with the parking brake set, but the heavy load caused the trailer to back into him, pinning him against the gate post.

Mills was pronounced deceased at the scene by Knox County Deputy Coroner Floyd Blevins, the sheriff’s department said.

According to Mills’ obituary, he was a “lifelong” cattle, tobacco, hay, and corn farmer.

“His tractors were prized possessions,” the obituary reads. “However, nothing was more important to him than spending time with his family.”

Visitation services will be held from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday at Hart Funeral Home in Corbin, with funeral services to follow.
